“Don’t Apologize For Being A Blogger”

Those were perhaps the most revelatory words spoken to me yesterday, and they came courtesy of David Japka, who’s here with his film, The Twenty (screens tonight, 9:00, at the Kerr Auditorium). We were chatting at the kick-off party last night, and when he saw my press pass and asked who I was with, I stammered and stuttered, not quite sure how to answer.

Keep in mind, this is not a question I’m asked often (okay, ever), and I had yet to acquire that precious sheen of bravado that sometimes comes after a few drinks.

“Umm, I’m a blogger,” I finally responded, rather meekly and (apparently) apologetically.

Japka smiled. “There’s nothing wrong with that. Don’t apologize for being a blogger.”

We went on to chat about his film, and about his years spent making training and industrial videos. It was only later (and after a few Stellas) that I began to think about what he had said, and how I really do need to suck it up and swagger a little more. I hereby vow to spend the rest of deadCENTER owning my status as a blogger, dammit.
